+I'd hazard a guess that most of us have, at some point, been steaming in Central Station, but not like this big beauty. Behold the LNER's streamlined Class A4 Kingfisher steam loco.
Kingfisher was built at Doncaster Works in 1936 and entered service on 26 December of that year. It certainly had plenty of admirers when it pulled into Central Station in 1937. Much like the trainspotter who fell under the Flying Scotsman, these guys look chuffed to bits!
The last of the A4 class in common use, it used to do the Glasgow - Aberdeen run, it was withdrawn for scrapping on 5 September 1966.
